Exceeded expectations
"This exceeds my high expectations in build quality and shave closeness. I’d listened to a shaving podcast where the Henson CEO guy was interviewed and heard the story of how the people and machines and skills that make their razors had spent decades making parts for aerospace and the international space station. In life, I love the “over-engineered” approach and knew I had to try one. Previously, I’d got my start with safety razors using a Merkur 47C, but within its first year the threaded bit broke off where the handle and head connect… Henson, by comparison, is made from aluminum with impressively tight manufacturing tolerances. It’s constructed flawlessly. I had to get used to the handle providing less weight against my skin whilst shaving, which I don’t mind. I also had to adjust to the Henson sort of providing “training wheels” in the sense that it requires less skill to get a good shave, which again I don’t mind. But my old Merkur razor I had to pay much more attention to the angle so I wouldn’t get a “bite”. Whereas the Henson has far less blade exposure and therefore has almost no bite, so it’s a way less aggressive shave which may not be for everyone if you like to speed through the shave, or if you get your satisfaction from the skill element. I got the normal mild Henson, but with my thick stubble I probably could have been fine with a Medium Henson and that might feel more like my old one. I’m going to just adjust my approach and stick with this, because it’s super gentle and I have sensitive skin that’s much happier lately thanks to this Henson. Thanks, Canadian folks at Henson."
